Practical Aspects of Social Workers` Motivation

Abstract

The paper presents the results of a survey conducted in Prienai District Municipality, which was aimed to
analyze the motives of social workers` professional activity and possibilities for development of their motivation.
The questionnaire was distributed among social workers of the divisions of Social Security, Education, Culture
and Sport, and Children Rights’ Protection of the Municipality, also among principals of Prienai District secondary
schools and among workers from collaborative institutions (Social Security Office, Pedagogicalpsychological
Office, Children Rights’ Protection Office). The questionnaire and the structured interview were
applied to identify the structure of work motives and the level of meeting them by social workers in Prienai District.
The research was carried out using triangulation research method and on the ground of viewpoint where the
triangulation can be used combining qualitative and quantitative researches. The topic was analyzed from several
perspectives: the opinions of social workers, schools` principals and employees collaborating with social workers
were evaluated. The authors of the article pointed out problems, which impede the formulation of the basis of
municipality social workers` motivation.
