Territorial Administrative Reform of the Marijampolė District Municipality

Abstract

Article focuses on analysis of peculiarities at the II (second) level, I (first) stage in Lithuanian territorial administrative
reform. As the result of this reform in Marijampolė District Municipality new Kalvarija Municipality was founded. Author
concentrates on problems and advantages of new municipality in the context of administrative reform. Hereby legal acts
regulating the realisation of reform are reviewed, actions of interest groups, which encouraged and discouraged the reform
were analysed too. Author not just examines opinion of Municipality residents concerning the reform but also formulates
conclusions about further implementation of Lithuanian territorial administrative reform in municipalities.
