Abstract

The Lithuanian academic community groundlessly pays little attention to the State security policy, even though
it was of considerable importance in Lithuania’s joining to the NATO and EU. In autumn 2002 the efficiency of the
policy was positively evaluated in the general context of the country and Lithuania eventually received an official
invitation to join the structures.
The article analyses the Lithuanian State security policy, its peculiarities, development from 1990 to 2002, as
well as provides suggestions for the development periods and gives prognosis on its development perspectives.
